Mader’s menu is a heartfelt tribute to traditional German cuisine, crafted with care and served in generous portions that echo a sense of shared abundance. Fantastic staff, food, beer, and ambiance. We had a large party meet and they were so welcoming and helpful. Excellent food (the pretzel is huge and delicious!) and German beers. The owners even provided a brief history of the armory throughout the restaurant. Highly, highly recommended!!!

Awesome experience, a Weider Rosemary friendly and accommodating. That's in on history at the restaurant in even invited us upstairs to look around. Portions were very large and the food was excellent.

Great spot downtown for some German grub! Very laid back vibe with a fun ambience. I got the sampler and had a drink at the bar and had a great time. Perfect place to dip in when traveling and trying to get a Milwaukee experience. I’ll be back next time I’m in the neighborhood.

If you’re craving a taste of Germany without booking a flight, Mader’s delivers the full experience right in downtown Milwaukee. From the moment you walk in, the medieval decor — suits of armor, stained glass, and antique wood carvings — sets the tone for a meal that’s anything but ordinary. The menu is a celebration of classic German fare: buttery pretzels, crisp fried fish, and schnitzels that could double as comfort food therapy. The beer selection is robust, with Spaten Lager served in glass boots that practically beg for a toast. Whether you’re diving into oxtail soup or the Bavarian platter, portions are generous and flavors are bold. It’s a great spot to hang out, indulge, and let the atmosphere transport you.

I went to Mader's with some friends from out of town to show them part of the Milwaukee culture. There were 6 of us at dinner. We were seated promptly, very well taken care of by the staff, and the food was incredible. The only item I would add that would make Mader's even better is 1 to 2 more vegetarian dishes. I know its not the norm of German food; it would make it a little easier for those with different diets to have more than one option to choose from. Definitely will be back.

For as long as I’ve been in Milwaukee, I figured it was about time I ate at Mader’s. It’s a Milwaukee staple, and it’s been there since 1902. I do have family who say I was there as a kid, but I was probably too young to remember. Anyway, my wife and I ordered the Tour of Germany. They say it’s enough for two—I think it’s probably enough for two Green Bay Packers offensive linemen. It could have easily fed four of us. Thankfully, it was fantastic, and we ended up taking a lot home in boxes. Our server was super nice. The atmosphere is traditional German, with plenty of holiday décor, which was a nice touch. It has a great historical vibe, and the food is excellent. No surprise they’ve been around as long as they have. Danke schön.

Excellent food with large portions. The menu said the Tour of Germany platter can feed two but it is large enough for four. My only disappointment was the liver dumpling soup was not on the menu. The potato soup I had was terrific. Our waitress Reanna was great! Do make reservations if you go after 4pm.

We had an amazing time. The food was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. Despite the city event and the place being fully booked, the service was fast, friendly, and on point. Everything was served quickly and with a smile. I would definitely come back – highly recommended!
